The CrickRock webring system was launched on October 10, 2000. The system is completely operational, and is working great! We are continually working
on the system, and updating lots of stuff. You can create new webrings, add new members, and manage your webrings without any problems!
What is a webring? A webring is an interesting idea in that it allows people to surf through sites which are related in one way or another. Surfers navigate the ring by clicking on "next", "previous", or "random" links in the ring. The idea is that if you continually press the "next" link, you will eventually end up at the site you started from. This is why it's called a "ring".       Click Here to see a working example ring. Each webring is created and maintained by a person known as a ringmaster. This person accepts site submissions, validates that the site meets the topic of the webring and that the site has installed the webring code properly. The ringmaster is the sole arbitrator of whether or not a site belongs in a webring - after all, it is his webring. The cool thing about well run webrings is that they tend to deliver highly targeted visitors to your site. This is because the people surfing the ring are actually looking for sites pertaining to the ring's topic. Can ringmasters customize their rings? Yes, ringmasters can customize their rings however they want. Unlike Yahoo! WebRings, they can make a customized HTML fragment for their ring. They also have access to their member's email addresses, and can setup their ring's homepages however they want. What, specifically, can be included in the HTML fragment? The fragment can include images, links, email addresses,- pretty much whatever the ringmaster decides to include. As far as the commands that can be used to navigate the ring- CrickRock supports the following:
The CrickRock Ring System was unofficially launched on October 10, 2000. It was created by Brock Reese and Curtis Neider. The reason that it was created was because we weren't very happy with some of the other webring systems that we were using. We thought that other people would appreciate what we were doing as well. We use a slightly modified version of Ringlink ver 3.05, made by Gunnar Hjalmarsson. About Ringlink Ringlink is a free CGI Perl program for running webrings. It's slogan is "created by Ringmasters for Ringmasters".
